install 5159 5270 5308

Hello I'm trying to install vista but on the boot screen installation hangs (just after initial files copying). I tried to install vista in safe mode but after first reboot i have a blue screen with error: "0x0000007e (0xc0000005,0x8623DE58,0x83A479F4,0x83A476F0) msiscsi.sys - address 8623DE58 base at 86225000, .....)". I'm traing to install vista on Toshiba Satelite M40-237. Any ideas ??

Let me suggest that you format the hard disk, make sure that you have the latest BIOS firmware installed, and reinstall Vista.
If it fails, zip and upload the setupact.log file.
If it hangs again, let the installer run for 3-5 hours. some users reporting that Vista's setup takes longer than it should.

Jabez is right (I mean, when is he ever wrong?) however if it takes more than 3-5 hours, I recommend spending time with the family, relaxing, catching up on missed television, go outside perhaps? Then go back to it in 2-4 weeks and see if it's finally installed after that ;o)

I had the exact same error has you described the first time installed 5308, but reformatted the drive "rather than my initial attempt of choosing to do a 'quick format'".
The other thing I did was to run the Vista installation DVD via my current XP installation
Vista installed and it installed much quicker the second time around.
The only problem I encountered was when trying to load my SCSI controller drivers, the drivers would not get picked up from the CD I inserted, I ended up using a USB memory stick which worked fine when pressing the load drivers button.

When you start the installation, the log file will be automatically created.
This file should be in the $windows.~bt folder (the name is similar to this, don't remember the exact temp folder).

Instalation hangs before that folder is created. it hangs when screen is black with gray progress bar (just after "windows is loading files..." bar) so i don't have that folder with setupact.log :(

I found solution problem is in pcmcia cardbus (Texas Instruments pcixx21/x515). i've installed vista in windows xp (iso mounted in daemon tools), everytime started in safe mode, when system was installe i disabled this controller (in safe mode) and then i successfully booted vista in normal mode. So i think that looks like a bug or bad device drivers.
